Soundset 2018 More than just music: Recap

First of all I would like to apologize as this was something I intended on sharing with you all awhile ago. In life we all have or ups and downs, the things we focus on and our distractions. Soundset 2018 was an event I was happy to attend  despite the heat and humidity. I was lucky enough to see acts such as Rapsody (Who gave some very wonderful advice to up and coming artists about their brand, music, and paper), Jack Harlow, J.I.D, Jaden Smith, Prof, Russ, Wu-Tang Clan, Erykah Badu (My Queen), Tyler the Creator (My spirit animal) and more!

As the day got later the crowds got bigger and I took advantage of exploring the other aspects of the monumental festival. With my journalist had on I managed to snag interviews with Rhymesayers artists prof and the newly signed Nikki Jean! With my interviews locked down I started exploring by proximity and based on the provided schedule. Just outside of the VIP area there was live painting, and "risk" painting experience, graffiti of course and the pieces all came out to be beautiful and unique. The most amazing thing I saw was the Familia Skateboard Experience. How they managed to be so active in such intense weather boggles me. I was too hot at some points to even walk for water. So shout outs definitely to those guys.

The b-boys and b-girls showed out at the Essential Elements tent and again I was amazed at not only the raw talent but the will to dance in that heat! They did their thing and competed well. I could never drop down to the floor that fast and get back up but when the music moves you I can totally understand.

Far east of the main stages was the setup for the live painting where people competed for the top spot and just imagine the pressure of creating art in the heat in front of other people, just amazing. Speaking of art just west of the Atmosphere & Friends stage where I saw J.I.D for the first time was the the Soundset custom car show. There were some nice clean automobiles along with creative concepts applied, sick customizations and classics.

The people, food and atmosphere were all lit as some would say. It was insanely incredible. I would give my overall experience an A+ despite the heat and want to remind folks that if you want to go to next years festivities get your tickets early and drink plenty of water.
