This topic has been a long time coming! I can approach this at so many angles especially since with or without the people I'm using as examples, the subject matter remains to be one that is timeless as long as humans exist on Earth. Remember that huge BET Event? The matrimony of the Guwops (Keyshia Ka'oir and Gucci Mane). They called it the Mane event and because I see cable as a luxury and not a necessity, I was not able to dress up and pretend that I was in attendance like the rest of the viewers.
For months we were teased about this fairytale wedding where the bride was beautiful as usual and the groom showed us a Gucci many folks still believe is a clone, because the man that went to jail was not the same man that came out.
One of my best girls Jay gave me the idea to discuss in detail how many people were saying how the relationship between Keyshia Ka'oir and Gucci is/was #goals. The issue in itself was that they were #goals based on the outcome of a very rocky relationship. Before going to jail and getting in shape and ridding himself of his demons, Gucci was like any other typical rapper that was living a rock star lifestyle. Music, money, tours, groupies, drugs, sex, fights, violence, and infidelity. I'm not here to judge but that Queen stuck around and dealt with a lot. She hustled while Gucci was away and obviously remained loyal enough to where once her man found some peace he gifted her with a rock honey. Remember, a man finds a good thing when he finds a wife.
The biggest issue is that not everyone story turns out like the Guwops. There are men out here with regular jobs/ no jobs living rock star lifestyles. My ex was in and out of jail and it took me to go through hell to realize that he was not worth wasting anymore time on. Some women are resilient enough to go through the hard times and support their men in hopes that they grow from their struggle, but honey, they can't all be Gucci.
Dating is like gambling, you can feel lucky all you want but the odds of winning are just as good as the odds of losing. Some of us are strong enough to stay while the rest of us are strong enough to leave. Obviously it takes for you to see something in your significant other to know whether or not if they are worth fighting for. The best thing to do is follow your gut and I beg of you, DO NOT ignore the red flags. Ladies we cannot all be Keyshia Ka'oir but we can strive to have as much strength as she has shown. Don't think she didn't have hard times. As a woman and a human being she has had her challenges, especially being in the public eye. Fellas this is not a bashing session, but just know that if you not willing to treat your woman like a queen, you truly don't deserve her. Also as a real man you should want nothing but a true queen.
We have to build each other up when we are at our lowest points, not everyone can handle having a jail bae. Remy Ma and Papoose exemplified some real thick and thin love in reverse. It is possible and it happens everyday out of the sight of the public. Don't try to force love and don't stick with someone you know will never want the same things as you. You should never have to convince someone to love you the way you deserve to be loved. The Guwops are where they are because they struggled together, grew together, and said fuck the bullshit. Can you say the same about your relationship? P.S. Situationships are a whole nother topic, so stay tuned!
