The Mane Event: Keyshia & Gucci goals?

Image
This topic has been a long time coming! I can approach this at  so many angles especially since with or without the people I'm using as examples, the subject matter remains to be one that is timeless as long as humans exist on Earth. Remember that huge BET Event? The matrimony of the Guwops (Keyshia Ka'oir and Gucci Mane). They called it the Mane event and because I see cable as a luxury and not a necessity, I was not able to dress up and pretend that I was in attendance like the rest of the viewers. For months we were teased about this fairytale wedding where the bride was beautiful as usual and the groom showed us a Gucci many folks still believe is a clone, because the man that went to jail was not the same man that came out. One of my best girls Jay gave me the idea to discuss in detail how many people were saying how the relationship between Keyshia Ka'oir and Gucci is/was #goals. The issue in itself was that they were #goals based on the outcome of a very roc...

Beware of the pump and dump: Breastfeeding, Marketing, & Relationships

Image
In today's society we have various sayings and terms that relate to the current times. We have "thot - that hoe over there" that has been reigning for years, "turn up-have more fun" is slowly dying, there is "lit - completely turned up" which means so much and then we have "opp - snitch, enemy" which means one thing at my job and another in the streets. So, ever heard of the term "pump and dump"? Most women are familiar if they ever had children and breast fed. In that sense, it's an act of drinking "wine" then pumping the tainted breast milk and dumping it to avoid feeding baby alcohol in their milk.  In stock it is a form of securities fraud that involves artificially inflating the price of an owned stock through false and misleading positive statements, in order to sell the cheaply purchased stock at a higher price. Once the operators of the scheme sell their overvalued shares, the price falls and the investors lo...

Happy New Year

Although I think every good writer does a hiatus every now and then I must apologize for my abrupt absence. Although I have been very much present on social media that good ol writers block had me out for the count. After being fat shamed and coming to some realizations about myself and relationships, I needed a mental break to move on from the literal bullshit. For weeks prior to the big countdown I saw posts of new year new me. Leave the snakes in 2017 blah blah blah. Change is hard. Like really hard. I've done some real big soul searching and what I have concluded is that I am lazy in others eyes but I know that I am exhausted. Each day is an opportunity to get more energy, make a different move, and do something extraordinary. I welcome everyone to have "me" time and really reflect on what could use some change, what can be done and the patience that is necessary. You'll see as much of me as I can bare between a full time and part time job, a radio show, and my a...

The realist, the optimist, the pessimist : A series on attitude and world views

Image
Happy Monday! For many I know there’s nothing exciting about the start of another work week and yet my gloom from Thanksgiving is almost completely evaporated. Just the atypical holidays for me as I get deeper into my 20's and closer to my 30's. The scariest part is that I'm embracing this sweet nightmare, but enough about me lets talk about everyone. Everyone that can relate that is.  I've never had a really hard time categorizing these personality types but I have always wondered how effective these ways of thinking are on the physical aspect of our personal worlds. A realist, a pessimist and an optimist were friends. The realist saw the optimist and pessimist for who they were. The optimist saw the realist and the pessimist for what they could be. The pessimist just anticipated the day the realist and the optimist wouldn't be their friend anymore. Quite the small group of friends don't you think? When defining myself I've always saw Jameliah as a realist...

Meliahs Thanksgiving survival guide

The time is here where all most folks can think about is turkey, macaroni and cheese and them nasty folks love them some chitterlings. The biggest concern around the holidays is typically what to cook, where to eat, what to wear, and how to clap back and them shots family gone be firing! Do not fret or sweat for I am here to help you out bro/sis. Food: If you plan on cooking this year I recommend to go ask the OG for them recipes! The OG can be anybody or your own grandma, mama, or auntie. My favorites are Greens, macaroni and cheese (baked), dressing with turkey in it, turkey, cranberry sauce, and sweet potato pie. We don't eat that stove top and don't you dare think Patty's pie gone cut it! If you can't cook I suggest you go to the nearest family member/friends house where they can and did cook! Clothes: If you going around family wear the outfit that will make them shut up about your weight, who you date, or what job you have now. If you going to your boo peoples ...

100 Pounds of Me(liah) Challenge

Image
It's a wonderful Thursday! The perfect day to reflect on my personal goals such as finishing this transcribing project and losing the 30 pounds I gained in a month. Surprise! I'm human and I have things I obsess over and get absolutely nothing accomplished because I'm too busy making an average problem a huge problem.

Dear Meliah: Trump, White privilege and supremacists

Dear Meliah                      Do you think that by 2020, the resentment for Trump and Co. will be strong enough to turn the tide against white supremacists and police violence? Or are we still going to be struggling to change minds and hearts to recognize white privilege? - Anonymous First off I want to say thank you for a political question! As of late it looks as if the paperwork for Trumps impeachment is being pushed forward. Aside from the undoing of many of Obama's policies, Trump has really helped the world see how America is full of dill holes. As far as the white supremacists, I feel like with enough unity we can push them back in hiding or in the deep woods of the South. He didn't make those people think the way they do, but he gave them enough "gasoline" to keep going with the same mentality of the fools that swear they discovered America. Sadly, many of them are...
